Self-contained story, divided into two volumes, starring King Conan of Aquilonia.
Conan is the victim of a strange dream that brings back his memories, as if they were real.
He watches helplessly as Agrid dies in battle.
He narrowly escapes capture by the slavers, unable to save Isparana.
He relives the tragic death of Belit, while chasing an exotic treasure.
Finally King Conan returns to his palace and discovers that the person responsible for his hallucinations is none other than the spirit of his old master in Kithai.
His aim is to convince Conan to leave his comfortable throne and go back to being a warrior.
Conan leaves power to his son Conn and sets off with his best men to explore.
