The flashback is to Brian's time as a student in New York, sharing a room with Peter Parker.
Brian was not a good roommate for Peter: messy and always drunk.
Captain Britain and Spider-Man find themselves fighting together against The Litter, a gang of criminals capable of mutating into weredogs.
Also in this circumstance Captain Britain's behavior is not adequate, seriously injuring one of the criminals.
Peter and Spider-Man separately and unknowingly teach Brian the need to improve himself.
