The missions of Team 7, the elite I.O. team, now equipped with super-powers, continue.
During a mission in Leningrad John Lynch loses an eye to stop a gifted Russian.
The events following the accident, which will only be clarified at the end of the story, lead to the dissolution of the team.
Craven, once again the director of the I.O., lets them go, but already begins to plan the exploitation of their children.
Becky Rainmaker, Stephen Callahan's wife, announces she is pregnant.

Cole Cash has become a secret agent, but is captured by Russian intelligence.
John Lynch intervenes to save him.
Stephen Callahan is informed that his wife and daughter died during childbirth, but this is a lie.
A few days later Becky manages to escape with her daughter.
Jackson Dane, comatose after the mission to Leningrad, is transferred to the 9th floor, with the other Craven monsters.

Mark Slayton continues to work for the I.O. and for Craven.
All members of Team 7 receive a telepathic call from Jackson Dane to return to I.O. headquarters.
X'Ing X'Iang, Deathblow's Korean friend with telepathic powers, also receives the call.
Once they arrive on site, only the power of the latter manages to stop the deformed monsters on the 9th floor and free Jackson, who however remains in a coma.
Despite his state, Jackson manages to warn his companions of Craven's intentions for their children.

After Craven's plans are revealed, only Slayton remains loyal to him.
Cole Cash tries to slow him down by infecting their computers with a virus.
Michael Cray is arrested and X'Ing X'Iang is locked up in the I.O. research departments.
It's revealed that in Leningrad Slayton killed the Russian scientist on Craven's orders.
Slayton warns Craven not to look for the children, lest he also rebel.
This tale connects the origins of Team 7 with the Gen 13 series.
The references are not very clear, perhaps deliberately.
The only clearly connectable character is Sarah Rainmaker, daughter of Stephen Callahan.
