Backlash (Mark Slayton) breaks Amanda Reed (Taboo) out of a super prison called Purgatory.
Taboo was falsely accused of murder, framed by the Cabal, the Daemonite organization of which she was part.
Backlash wants to use her to track down S'Ryn the new leader of the Cabal.
S'Ryn is responsible for his girlfriend Diane's coma after a possession.
Taboo agrees to help him.

Backlash confronts S'Ryn and Pike, his assistant, while he is visiting Diane in the hospital.
Slayton is defeated, becoming convinced that he needs help against the Cabal.
While Backlash and Taboo successfully complete the prison break, S'Ryn confronts the other members of the Cabal, becoming the new leader.
Backlash and Taboo decide to track down S'Ryn at a benefit in Chicago, not knowing it will be guarded by Savage Dragon.
S'Ryn tries to kill Lord Emp, who is also present, but Backlash intervenes to help him.
Backlash and S'Ryn are attacked by Savage Dragon.

Lord Emp is chased by Pike and Taboo steps in to protect him, giving him time to call Void.
Void brings Zealot to the party and the two women face the Cabal member together.
Savage Dragon easily knocks out S'Ryn and is about to arrest him, but Backlash stops him, to bring the criminal to Stormwatch and save Diane.
The clash allows S'Ryn to recover and escape with Pike.
Before leaving, he throws a bomb at the group of heroes.

Void and Savage Dragon manage to save everyone from the bomb.
Zealot stops Savage Dragon from arresting Backlash and Taboo.
Lord Emp asks Backlash to join the WildC.A.Ts, but the former Team 7 refuses.
Backlash and Taboo hide out at Cyberjack's house in New York and end up having sex.
In an attempt to find the Cabal Cyberjack sends them the next day to look for a device at Wearing Industries.
Backlash clashes with Jackson Dane (formerly Team 7), who protects them, until they recognize each other.
Taboo is attacked by another thief, who then knocks out Dane and Slayton.
The character of Backlash, in this series dedicated to him, is less bigoted than what was seen in the books Team 7 or Team One, more similar to the character who appeared in the comic book Deathblow.
Like other Wildstorm series, the presence of too many characters, sometimes with similar costumes, makes it difficult to follow the plot.
