Debut volume of the Gen13 group, introduction to the regular series.
The story begins in the past, with the killing of former Team7 member Stephen Callahan by IO agents and the subsequent kidnapping of his two children, Matt and Nicole.
We then return to the present (1994) with the introduction of Caitlin Fairchild, who is attending her second year at Princeton University.
She is contacted by some NSA agents to participate in a government internship.
This is the Genesis Project, directed by the SCI-TEC section of the IO, directed by Ivana.
Matt Callahan has become a Gen-active called Threshold, tasked with discovering others like him on the project.
His sister Nicole took the name Bliss.
John Lynch, who is looking for his son, secretly keeps an eye on the project.
Caitlin meets Grunge Chang, Roxy Spaulding and Bobby Lane, just arrived at the center.
They don't know that there are hidden substances in their food designed to activate their powers.
One night, after discovering the center's connection to her father Alexander, Caitlin manifests her powers, becoming incredibly strong.
Caitlin, Roxy and Grunge are forced to flee.
They are helped soon after by Sarah Rainmaker and Bobby, joined by Tom Hallinan, who they have never seen before.
Tom convinces everyone except Caitlin to go back and attack the center.
The boys discover too late that Tom is actually Threshold, loyal to Ivana, and are captured.
Threshold begins torturing them, naked, to force them to manifest their powers.
Meanwhile, Caitlin goes back to free them, after receiving a telepathic request from Roxy.
Caitlin saves a child, Timmy, locked up in the center like them, but she doesn't know that he is a friend of the alien Pitt, who came to free him in the center.
Pitt and Caitlin clash, causing chaos in the center.
In the meantime, the others in the group manage to free themselves and intervene to help them against Ivana's guards.
Pitt saves Timmy and together they leave the battle.
John Lynch, who brought Pitt to the base, meets the boys and talks about their bond with Team7, made up of their fathers.
With Lynch's help, the Gen13 leave the center, even surviving a clash with Threshold and Bliss.
The Genesis Project is destroyed, but Ivana manages to escape with some hibernating Gen13s.
John Lynch decides to train the boys to protect themself.
