Gotham City, ten years ago Michael Cray was on a secret mission for the OI.
His target turns out to be a powered-up guy who controls fire and is unable to eliminate him.
Today Bruce Wayne meets a couple of friends who work for the secret service, Carla from the CIA and Scott from the OI.
As Batman his attention is drawn to the charred body of a stranger and a severed hand abandoned at a highway toll booth with a “Death Card”.
While being informed of this case, Scott is attacked and burned by an unknown man.
When Bruce visits him in the hospital, he can only discover one name: Deathblow.
Deathblow is the recipient of the Death Card found in the toll booth, his symbol.
Scott's killer is the same augmented person who escaped Deathblow 10 years earlier.
