Alix and Thor are friends and live in the Imperial School, potential heirs to the Empire of Darius.
Alix gives Thor a lock of her hair, so that he never forgets her.
Shortly after, the school is attacked and all the students killed except Alix.
Fifteen years later Alix has become a warrior, known as Morgana.
Together with Red, a Krritt thief, they must recover a relic from the city of Deneth Skaag.
The City is controlled by the Sieth, a race with very large eyes, besieged for centuries by the Tromak, in a long war.
Lately the Tromaks have been aided by Voortt, in the service of the Emperor, who for personal reasons also wants the relic.
Morgana and Rosso enter the city, but are captured.
Morgana doesn't want to put the Sieth in danger, so she offers to help them in exchange for the relic.
Voortt approaches the Prince of the Sieth with a similar proposition.
Morgana manages to convince them not to trust him, but when she tries to escape with the prince they are attacked by Voortt.
During the fight, Morgana recovers the braid she had given to Thor, beginning to suspect the true identity of her mortal enemy.
Voortt manages to take the relic and escape.
