Philip manages to kill the Polyphemus, but then falls into an abyss.
Meanwhile, Valentina is busy flirting with Effi and Bruno, who has returned to town for a concert.
Philip wakes up in Wisconsin and is helped by two local cowboys.
Philip Rembrandt begins a journey across the United States, similar to the journey made by Ulysses in the Odyssey.
The cowboys and their family are the lotus eaters, followed by the witch Circe and finally the black princess.
Eventually he manages to reach his parents, then Italy.
Valentina lets her lovers Effi and Bruno leave, finding her Phil again.
