Valentina
"The double crime of Morgue street"
pencil and story: Guido Crepax
Guido Crepax, in this story, uses a ploy to graphically represent Edgar Allan Poe's story of the title.
It is in fact a reading of Valentina, who imagines the story.
The story is about a murder, mother and daughter, killed in Paris.
The mother is found in the street, while the daughter was forcibly shoved into a fireplace.
The investigations are carried out by two British investigators, who discover that the killer is an orangutan who has escaped from his master.
Valentina finds the story exciting and ends up masturbating, fantasizing about an attack by the primate.
The story was drawn “horizontally”, a style occasionally used by Crepax, but not very practical for reading.

"The Lesmo curve"
publication date: 1965
pencil and story: Guido Crepax
Valentina's first adventure ever.
The protagonist is Philip Rembrandt, an American art critic.
Philip leads a double life, also being the investigator Neutron.
Neutron has the power to paralyze the viewer, including the mechanisms.
Thanks to this power he carries out his fight against crime, but without ever revealing his involvement.
He begins to investigate the intrigues of a New York criminal who marries beautiful women to billionaires, who then die in strange accidents.
His latest target is the Formula One driver Johnson, who married the beautiful Stella.
The gang organizes the incident during the Monza Grand Prix, but Philip arrives in Italy to stop them.
At the airport he meets Valentina Rosselli, a beautiful Milanese photographer, who immediately fascinates him.
Valentina and Philip follow the pilot and his wife on their travels to Italy, hindering the criminal gang, even if Valentina doesn't notice anything.
Crepax has a classic style, for 1965, in this tale.
There are no erotic scenes and the relationships with Valentina are only hinted at.
Even the lyrics are much neater than they will be in the future.
The title refers to one of the most dangerous corners of the Monza circuit.

The accomplice is killed and Valentina is kidnapped by the countess.
Philip joins them and manages to stop the countess, accidentally killing her.

"The Descent"
publication date: 1966
pencil and story: Guido Crepax
Valentina and Philip investigate the discovery of a woman from the World of Dungeons.
In Paris they meet Arno Treves, a diving expert, who offers to help them investigate the mysterious woman.
That evening, at a party, Valentina has an affair with Arno.
The three reach Norway and follow a mysterious boat, on which they see the girl.
They follow the gang on an immersion into the World of Dungeons and become involved in a civil war of its inhabitants.
Neutron clearly has a connection with that race, as it has the same power as theirs, albeit at a lower level.
Valentina, however, still does not know Philip's secret.
The three help the rebel faction defeat their rulers, despite their alliance with human criminals.
