Susanna betrays Max and takes him to the desert, to have him eliminated by the IO and the Wildc.a.t.s.
Max Faraday suspected treason and the IO bombing achieved no results.

Max Faraday uses his power to travel through time and befriend the Gen13s before they gain their powers.
In the present, when the Wildc.a.t.s attack him, the Gen13s come to his aid.
Susanna in the meantime is contacted by the ghost of Cardinal Lazarus, who takes her back to the Shadow Realm.
Susanna allies with the Fallen and attacks Max, but doesn't have the strength to kill him.
Max is still in love and kills himself to save her.
Some time later, when Dev and Jenny visit Susanna, they find that she is missing.
On the computer screen an old photograph of Max has changed and the couple seems reunited and happy again.

The theft triggers panic in the secret circles of the Church, particularly in the secret sect of Avignon, with the Fallen summoned to recover the information.
