The life of a turn-of-the-century Djinn, reconstructed from the research of a granddaughter in search of her origins.
Kim Nelson now that he has lost his sight is able to better follow Jade's tracks and look at her past.
Jade repels the white man's invasion, now that she has taken the place of the late King Kavi Mobo (slain by her own men).
However, her purpose in Africa is not complete: Jade must find the Gorilla King.
She discovers that the Gorilla King is the son of a human woman and wants to mate with her to have an heir.
Jade accepts his request, becoming pregnant.
Kim manages to track down the descendant of Charles Augery and Ebony, who sells her the stolen Black Pearl.
After regaining her sight thanks to an attempted poisoning, Kim returns to India.
