Collection of short stories in a gothic setting.
The only constant in each story is the vampire Ezequiel, beautiful and dark, who sows death among the girls he bleeds, but with love.
In the first story, "Virgins of the Lake", the vampire kills poor Lavernne, already desperate for her father who has not returned from the crusades.
Lavernne's body is abandoned in a pond where, in the following years, other desperate young virgins throw themselves to reach her.
In the second story, "Angels of Silence", the young Marquise consoles her loneliness by playing the violin for the cold statue of an angel.
After the vampire consumes her, Marquise can live forever as a spirit alongside her angel.
In the last story, "Marionette Theater", Ezequiel seduces a red-haired Venetian puppeteer, but does not have the courage to transform her.
Marionette flees to Genoa, where she is transformed into an immortal being by a sea creature, which however condemns her to not being able to reunite with her vampire lover.
Beautiful illustrations for a slightly too romantic vision of the cruelty of a vampire.
