Since the error occurs on a Friday, he cannot correct the error until the following Monday.
A series of events leads poor Pincus to lose everything: his home, his job and finally his life.

Morris discovers that he has an almost divine power: with prayers he can heal people or change events that put them in danger.
As the years go by Morris can't figure out how to use his gift and ends up on the street.
Finally he opens a small studio where he takes care of the sick and starts earning some money.
But when he fails to cure his son, whose existence he has just discovered, he loses confidence in himself and goes back to living on the street.

Hilda has ruined her life caring for her sick father.
When he dies she is now 40 years old and begins to despair.
She discovers that a co-worker at the library has a similar story.
Herman is 50 and lives with his mother, who still treats him like a child.
Hilda and Herman start dating and decide to get married.
When the mother finds out she pretends to attempt suicide, almost succeeding.
Hilda takes the opportunity to move in with them, so the desperate woman blows up the house with gas.
The two women die in the explosion, while Herman survives as an invalid and returns to his solitude.
