The protagonist of this series is Shang-Chi.
The story is set in one of the realms of Battleworld, Kun-Lao.
There are various martial arts schools, competing with each other.
After a bloody war it is decided that, every 12 years, there will be a challenge between the masters of the various schools to choose the Emperor of Kun-Lao.
For many centuries now, the Emperor has been Zheng Zu, Master of the Ten Rings.
Shang-Chi, his son, is wanted for killing the Master of Iron Fist.
Now Shang-Chi has become an alcoholic but still dangerous bum.
When they try to arrest him, he is helped into hiding by a group of mutants, outcasts rejected by all martial arts schools.
Among them Callisto, Kitty, Rahne, Doug, Caliban and Sarah (Marrow).
The Emperor sends the new master Iron Fist to capture him.
