The Avengers have just returned from time travel to witness Bucky's death.
Not finding their quinjet anymore, they are forced to walk back from Doctor Doom's castle.
They notice that everyone looks at them strangely.
When they reach the base, they are attacked by the old Avengers lineup: Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Giant Man and Wasp.
Escaped by a miracle, they discover that they have ended up in an alternate reality, where Captain America has never been saved from the ice.
The Avengers, immediately after the first encounter with the Phantom of Space, were contacted by a time traveler who calls himself the Scarlet Centurion (an intermediate version between Ramatut and Kang).
The Scarlet Centurion convinces them that the super-heroes of Earth are an anomaly and must be stopped.
With the exception of the original Avengers, all super heroes and super villains have been captured and imprisoned.
Doctor Doom's time machine has also been dismantled, so it is impossible to undo what has been achieved.
Henry Pym still manages to rebuild the machine, while the Avengers collide with themselves.
The Scarlet Centurion is sent back into the time stream, to become Kang.
The Watcher makes the Avengers forget everything and returns them to their timeline.
