Summer 1982, Türkiye.
Max Fridman finds himself, against his will, drawn into another war of spies.
This time he is being attacked solely for his fame, since it really is a business trip (Fridman is a tobacco merchant).
The Russian Secret Service (NKVD) is looking for a Jewish engineer who worked in Russia, Stern.
During the journey to Istanbul, by ship, Max meets the beautiful and mysterious Magda Witnitz.
The Russians capture Max as soon as he has landed, to find out where Stern is hiding.
Rescued by the French secret services, who however do not want to get involved, Max is informed of the search.
After more attacks Max discovers that Magda is the one who is looking for Stern to save him.
A relationship develops between them and only later does Max discover that Magda is Stern's wife.
Thanks to a Ukrainian exile, whom Max met during his adventure in Hungary ("Hungarian Rhapsody"), they manage to find Stern.
Stern and Magda leave under the protection of the French secret services, by ship.
A few days later Magda returns to Fridman, intending to kill him.
The secret services handed Stern over to the NKVD, but Max was unaware of it.
Despite the clarification, Magda leaves Max threatening to take revenge.
