Splendid erotic noir story set in the 20s or 30s, in an undefined city (it is not specified).
Commissioner Steiner is investigating a series of missing women, who no one else seems to care about.
These women have disappeared in the house of Fleev, an enigmatic and fascinating man who manages to transform his hand into a tentacle (the Demon of the title, perhaps).
Steiner also has a secret: she is actually a woman, disguised to do her job.
Her suspicions lead her to sneak into Fleev's house, but she has to escape after being discovered.
She met Fleev at a party, attracting his attention despite her male disguise.
After the intrusion into the house she meets him on the street and he unmasks her, kissing her.
Steiner is irresistibly attracted to Fleev, lusting after him.
At the next meeting she follows him to his house and offers herself completely, but when the tentacle appears, she resists and shoots him, and then runs away half naked.
Meanwhile, her boss assigns her the case of some murdered prostitutes, somehow connected to Fleev.
Steiner begins to see Fleev at her side, like a ghost, influencing her choices.
Under the name of Cristina Ka Par she introduces herself to the Marquise, who controls the group of prostitutes.
She offers herself to the woman and becomes her lover, starting the sapphic training reserved for all her girls.
Having completed the training, she seduces her boss, but ends up killing him with a stone to the head.
When she returns to the Marquise, distraught, we discover that Steiner is the killer of the prostitutes, influenced by Fleev.
Steiner kills the Marquise and kills herself, throwing herself from the roof of the brothel.
