When he approaches her, however, she instinctively defends herself and knocks him out with her powers.
Repentant, she puts on the Captain Marvel uniform and runs away.
The flashback of the origins starts, in New Orleans.
Monica Rambeau is a Coast Guard agent little appreciated by superiors.
Professor Andrè LeClare asks her for help to stop a South American dictator, who had financed him.
When he refused to use his invention as a weapon he hired his assistant, Dr. Felipe Picaro, to finish the job.
Together they reach the barge where Picaro works.
To get their attention Monica wears a short bikini and it works.
The professor sets off the alarm and Monica's cover goes off.
Picaro shows the machine he built and wants to use against the American government.
Monica smashes it with her fists, causing it to explode.
In a flash she finds herself in New Orleans, with strange powers.
she creates a costume and returns to the barge.
Picaro shoots LeClare and Monica closes the dimensional portal he created and defeats Picaro.
The professor is safe, Monica resigns from her job and leaves for New York.
Captain Marvel turns to the Fantastic Four to help her unload the excess dimensional energy she has absorbed.
Receiving no response from the Thing, she turns to the Avengers.
After a small problem with Iron Man, solved by Spider-man, Captain Marvel is helped and welcomed into the Avengers.
The introduction of a new heroine, Captain Marvel, in an annual where Spider-Man is only an extra. Discreet.
