John Clay, a former Hollywood star, founds a new religion that immediately becomes incredibly successful.
One of his first projects concerns Authority, whose reputation he attempts to destroy by distributing a BDSM video featuring them on social media.
Thanks to Sister Voice, an augmented being working with Clay, he proceeds to destroy the Mormon city, Salt Lake City.
Another group in his service, laboratory-created flying harpies, attack the Dalai Lama in Tibet, but fortunately Swift is present and can stop them.

Authority discovers that John Clay and his Church of Transcendence are behind these events.
They attack him head-on, but suffer a resounding defeat.
Clay proves strong enough to defeat Apollo, while Midnighter and Jack Hawksmoor are captured and converted.
The only one who could stop him, Doctor, has reconciled with his wife, a famous Hollywood star and member of the Church, who keeps him busy.

Thanks to the new members, John Clay increases the influence of the Church, absorbing other religions.
Midnighter resists conversion, but they keep him locked up in their clinic, where they subject him to constant torture.
Engineer discovers that Clay has the power to convert people, like a virus, and once converted he absorbs their strength.
The remaining members of the Authority decide to confront him anyway.
Apollo surprises him during an orgy with some Hollywood divas (the most recognizable is Halle Barry).

While Apollo distracts John Clay, beating him so hard he can't concentrate, Swift and Engineer free Midnighter and Jack from his influence.
Meanwhile, Doctor is brought back to his senses by his predecessors.
Doctor concludes the fight with John Clay by taking control of his Church and devouring him.

After a catastrophic event started by the fault of the US President, The Authority deposes him and takes control of the United States.
Even though other governments disagree, they can do nothing to stop them.
Meanwhile, Apollo and Midnighter are brought to trial by Jenny Quantum's real mother, who wants to see her daughter again.
After the meeting with the lawyers, fractures in the Bleed open up all over the world, causing catastrophic disasters.

Authority manages the Bleed breaches as best it can, but does not know their origin.
Midnighter and Apollo give in to pressure from their lawyers and allow Jenny's mother to see her daughter on the Carrier.
While Jenny befriends her mother, Authority investigates the first breach, which opened in China.
By questioning the Chinese president, they discover that the woman pretending to be Jenny's mother is at the center of the event.
