The Ultimates nr. 3
“21st Century Boy”
Original Editor: Marvel Comics
publication date: May 2002
pencil: Bryan Hitch
story: Mark Millar
inks: Andrew Currie
colors: Paul Mounts
The series tells the adventures of the Ultimates, the Avengers of the “Ultimate” version, which inspired most of the elements included in the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe).
In the third chapter, the heroes prepare for the official presentation. Cap has been awakened from hibernation and there are still no signs of Hulk's return.
Curiosity: the inaugural evening of the Ultimates (organized by Betty Ross, temporarily separated from Banner), was attended by the President of the United States of the time (2002), George W. Bush, very similarly designed.
In addition, Tony Stark has an appointment with Jennifer Tilly (while in the previous issue there was mention of Cameron Diaz).
We see, properly positioned, the naked bodies of Hank and Janet Pym, when they change size (in this universe there are no unstable molecules of Reed Richards for superhero clothes).
Still an introductory story, albeit graphically valid.

The Ultimates nr. 4
"Thunder"
Original Editor: Marvel Comics
publication date: June 2002
pencil: Bryan Hitch
story: Mark Millar
inks: Andrew Currie
colors: Paul Mounts
The series tells the adventures of the Ultimates, the Avengers of the “Ultimate” version, which inspired most of the elements included in the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe).
The fourth chapter begins with another Hollywood-style curiosity: Tony Stark in a shuttle with actress Elizabeth Shannon to celebrate his birthday (while being interviewed by David Letterman)!
This chapter is the last introductory and shows the ever-growing disagreements within the group, particularly between Banner and the Pym, which culminate in the return of Hulk at the end of the story.
Another curiosity: we are in 2003, 5 years before the release of Hulk (the first film in the MCU cycle).
The protagonists find themselves debating who could make their character in films: Brad Pitt as Captain America (wrong!); Samuel L. Jackson for Nick Fury (fair and obvious, given the similarity of the character in the comic); Johnny Depp for Iron Man (wrong!); Lucy Liu for Wasp (in the comic she is oriental… wrong anyway!); Matthew McConnaughey for Hank Pym (wrong!) And finally Steve Buscemi for Hulk (wrong!)… 1 out of 6 !! An introductory story, with few salient facts, but well presented.
