In the past, Deathblow fails to capture, due to Scott defending him as an undercover agent of the OI.
In the present Batman discovers Max's connection to the OI and the CIA, so to avoid problems with the government he attacks him disguised as Deathblow.
Batman saves the CIA agent's life, but can't prevent Max's death at the hands of the OI.
Before dying, Max remembers how ten years earlier he helped his boss, the Hawk, die.

Spartan lures Smith into a trap.
The agents of the National Park Service also sense his intentions and confront Smith before him.
One of the two officers is killed and the other seriously injured.
Spartan meets Smith and challenges him, but the killer's power has no effect on his synthetic body.
Grifter kills Smith with a precise shot to the forehead.
Void and Spartan can continue with their corporate plans.

The G7 send a high-tech hitman to eliminate Authority on Career and replace it with their trusted agents.
Seth enters Career by growing up inside a pizza delivery girl.
The first to fall is Apollo, who is burned in the face.
Midnighter barely survives the fight, but Doctor, Engineer and Swing are not so lucky.
Midnighter manages to save Jenny Quantum, while Seth attacks and devours Jack Hawksmoor.
After saving Jenny, Midnighter returns to the Career and tries to kill Seth by pushing him into the ship's engine, sacrificing himself.
The spaceship crashes and the new Authority (with members very similar to the original team) takes possession.
