Alex Summers, aka Havok, has been kidnapped by Savage Land mutants.
Cyclops, Marvel Girl and Polaris set out to rescue him.
The mutants of the Savage Land, after Magneto's death, work for Sauron, aka Karl Lykos.
Karl Lykos was a mutant psychiatrist, who absorbed the life force of patients, after being scratched by a Pterodon as a child.
When he tried to absorb Alex, his cosmic energy transformed him into Sauron.
Now his vampire hunger can no longer be quenched except by Alex's energy.
Sauron also captures the X-Men and absorbs the energy of both Alex and Scott, becoming even stronger.
The X-Men manage to escape, but Sauron pursues them.
Marvel Girl manages to enter his mind and convinces Karl Lykos to face Sauron, for control of their body.
The minds of Sauron and Lykos end in a mental abyss, leaving only instinct to control Sauron's body, which flees into the jungle.

Wolfsbane steps in to help him clean up the damage.
